Has anyone else been lucky enough to go to any of the HMV album signings?
I went to the Leeds one on Tuesday with Karen, Tina and Kerri. We all met and had a good catch up before moving on to the HMV store, where we heard the G4 Love Songs album blasting out loudly on both floors of the store, and copies on prominent display at both entrances. A proud moment to be a G4 fan!
A small queue was forming outside the top entrance. We commented that we didn’t really recognise anyone – presumably some were Merrill fans (as he was going to appear with them at the Leeds signing), and perhaps some just came along to album signings out of curiosity as it seems a good way to see and meet bands.
In due course we were led over to stand at a barrier, behind which was a long table decked out with HMV coverings, and the huge G4 sign shining away to one side. At 5.30 the CD music was turned off and G4 entered from a lift on the left side of the stage area (I personally think there should have been lights and smoke at the entrance, but there wasn’t lol!) looking very handsome in their blue suits with white shirts and ties. I wasn’t at all sure what to expect as I’ve never been to a signing before – I knew they were going to sing with Merrill, but I certainly wasn’t expecting 4 additional songs!! We were treated to ‘I Would Do Anything For Love’, ‘Your Song’ (with that delicious long note at the start!), ‘Love Changes Everything’ and ‘Amigos Para Siempre’ all performed to perfection with those wonderful harmonies echoing around the store. It was an intimate but warm audience and Jonathan was quick to interact with ladies in the front row in his inimitable style, which I’m sure gained them some new fans! Jon’s mother-in-law, Wendy, was there too, providing enthusiastic support at the back during the performance. It must have been nice too for the lads to be able to see the audience reaction without being blinded by theatre lights (although I think I stood grinning like a Cheshire cat as it was all just so fabulous!) Merrill entered from the back of the audience for his duet and received a very warm welcome (definitely some Merrill fans there!) – it was so wonderful to see them all performing together!
After the performance, we were told to line up for the signings. The HMV staff handled it all very efficiently, making sure that the queue kept moving but giving everyone as much time as they needed to get things signed and have photos taken. A staff member was on hand to take photos, using our own cameras/phones. I chatted to another staff member who said that, although it wasn’t her kind of music, she was completely won over by the guys’ friendliness and politeness, compared with some other bands they had had performing (no names mentioned) who could be rather rude and unfriendly. I was over the moon, not only to have a hug and chat with each G4 lad, but also to meet the wonderful Merrill Osmond – as a huge pop music fan of the Osmonds and pop music of the ‘70s in general, it was a dream come true to meet such a legend, and to find him just as warm and friendly as our own lovely G4 guys – a real ‘fangirl’ moment!
We left the store as G4 were posing for photos with HMV staff. It was a lovely evening and a great success. I’d definitely go again if there is a chance in the future.
Awww that all sounds lovely, Audrey. How lucky to get seranaded too! The signings were certainly successful events and a great way to showcase the new album. :)
I went to the signing at HMV Southampton. Got there early and stood at the front behind barrier in front of the G4 performance space. The guys came in at 5.30 and sang to us for half an hour, and Jon serenaded me, much to my surprise! It was lovely! Lovely to hear the songs from the album. Afterwards the guys went to a table for signing, and I had a kiss from each of them and then a lovely lady member of staff took 2 photos of me with them for me. A lovely time, well worth going.
Hi Christine
Great to hear that the Reading signing was well received! I'm pleased Colin Bear enjoyed it too! :-) They definitely were like 'mini concerts' - the boys pulled out all the stops and it was lovely to be so close to hear those wonderful harmonies. I do hope they will get the chance to do some more similar appearances in the future.
Lovely to read your reviews Norma Tig and Natalie.
We went along to the HMV Reading signing, lovely to see you Natalie. We also took along Colin Bearin his new G4 Love Songs T. Shirt he enjoyed it very much too.
We had a lovely time hearing G4 sing songs for their beautiful new album. The atmosphere was magic as G4 appeared to the whispers of G4 G4 G4. Fabulous fun filled professional performances as always. G4 were amazing the roof was raised. The staff were enjoying the guys just as much as we were.
A wonderful Album Launch worth every mile travelled, it was like a mini concert in HMV that afternoon/evening. We loved every special moment.
I do have a few pic's but for some reason even after downsizing sadly they will not will not upload from my pc.
Hope that everyone is enjoying the album. x
Thanks, Natalie! Lovely that you managed to get to Reading and lovely too that David got a chance to see the boys perform and meet them as well. He must have felt that he already knew them lol!
It was a brilliant week of signings and a chance for people to see and hear G4 'close up' and meet them afterwards too. I hope they get the chance to do some more in the future.

So pleased you got to King's Lynn yesterday, Tig - what a wonderful Valentine treat for you! :) I saw some of your photos on FB and it looked like it was a wonderful day - how lovely that they were so much appreciated that they were invited to make additional appearances during the day. It's brilliant how well they interact with the audience whilst keeping those tight harmonies together - they obviously enjoy what they do so much. Hopefully a lot more CDs will have been sold.
They're certainly bringing their music to a lot of people around the country!
Thank you Norma, that is a lovely review. I went to Kings Lynn yesterday and it was absolutely fabulous. I didn't know until the morning when my hub said 'happy Valentine's Day, we are going to King's Lynn.'
Jon held my hand and sang to me which made me very happy - all the years I've been attending concerts and they've all come close when they do their audience interaction stuff but I've never been singled out before. They were so popular yesterday that instead of finishing at 2 they added more performances and as we left were planning to keep going until 5 or 6 (can't remember). It was so nice to have time for pics and chatting. I love the way they interact with their audience, waving at children, doing high fives with them and really looking at and involving the audience. I love how they thank everyone for coming and it's clear that they really do appreciate it. I bet they must be gettihg tired! That's one of the things that makes them so special I think, it feels like they are performing just for you. I think they sold lots of CD's and I'm very happy for them. It was good to catch up for a chat with Nathan too.
